Hyundai unveiled luxury electric midsize crossover Ioniq 5 globally through a virtual digital platform on 23rd February 2021. Hyundai Ioniq 5 is decorated with features like Digital Side Mirror (DSM), Autonomous parking, movable seats, and Parametric Pixels lights. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Interior

A 12-inch full touch screen digital instrument cluster has been added to Ioniq 5. A separate 12-inch size digital gauge cluster has also added to display the vehicle-related information like range, battery percentage, and location of the nearest charging stations. A digitally operated metal tray is also provided to use as per the driver's convenience. 

The interior of the Hyundai Ionic 5 is very spacious as the company reduced the size of the front seats by 30%. The center console can slide backside up to 140mm. The rear passenger of Ioniq 5 can use a 15W fast charger, USB ports, and bottle holder of the center console. The sliding center console will help in easy entry and exit to passengers.     

Hyundai introduced "Zero-Gravity" front seats in Ioniq 5 that facilitate front seats to recline at a maximum angle so that an occupant feels weightless during rest. Eco-processed leather seats are used in this CUV. 

All interior of the Ioniq 5 is made from bio components and sustainable fibers. A polyurethane bio paint made from corn and rape flower has been used in the coating of the switches, doors, and dashboard.

The large glass vision roof without any partition strip in the middle of this CUV provides a clear view of the nature and sky. Hyundai introduced a world-class V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function in Ioniq 5. The V2L system works as a charger on wheels i.e. you can charge your electrical camping equipment, e-bicycle, and scooters by a 3.6 kW power supply port. These V2L ports are given below the rear seat which works during vehicle moves and another on the exterior side which function during vehicle static condition.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Exterior

The exterior of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is very glossy and polished. Pixels-inspired all LED lights are advanced and alluring. The wheel design of the Ioniq 5 is inspired by the Pixels light concept and the diameter of the wheels is 20-inch which is the highest ever size in any Hyundai EV. A V2L port is also given on the exterior of the Ioniq 5 to charge your other electrical items and it works while the vehicle is off in parking mode.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Battery and Specifications

Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with two battery options of 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh having an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option or two-wheel drive options (2WD). The AWD variant inlined with two motors of 72.6 kWh in the front and rear on both sides which generate a peak power of 225 kWh and a peak torque of 605 Nm. The 2WD variant uses a single motor of 72.6 kWh on the rear side only.

Ioniq 5 achieves 0 to 100 kilometers per hour speed in 5.2 seconds only and comes with the range of 480 kilometers per charge. Other specifications are

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Range and Top Speed

Hyundai Ioniq will come with a range between 470-480 kilometers/charge. The top speed of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is 185 kilometers per hour (115 mph). 

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Charging Time

Hyundai offers 400V and 800V ultra-fast battery chargers with Ioniq 5. An 800V charger comes as a standard with this electric crossover. Hyundai Ioniq 5 takes 18 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% with a 350 kW charger. Ioniq 5 takes 5 minutes to charge for 100 kilometers range as per the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) standard.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 E-GMP Platform

The E-GMP Platform is an all-new modern platform, specially designed by Hyundai for the Hyundai electric vehicles (EVs). The term E-GMP stands for Electric Global Modular Platform. 

The E-GMP Platform includes the battery, motor, and electric power system with the chassis having an expendable wheelbase to use this platform for other EV segments also. E-GMP Platform offers improved driving experience and performance than conventional internal combustion engine platforms. The E-GMP Platform maintains a low center of gravity to the vehicle which provides better stability to the car. E-GMP is built with an ultra-high-strength steel frame which magnifies the best in class safety to the passengers inside the vehicle. To keep the battery safe during a collision 8-point battery mounting is provided to absorb the impact and prevent deformation so that all passengers remained safe in the cabin.

Albert Biermann, Head of R&D Division at HYUNDAI MOTOR GROUP said that 

The E-GMP is all about freedom in vehicle design. At a time when most EVs being released in the market are looking rather similar, the E-GMP will offer some standout, unique exteriors that will appeal to the customers.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Price and Availability

The price of the Ioniq 5 is not revealed yet by Hyundai Motor. We shall update the price when it will out by Hyundai officials. Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be available in mid of 2021 as per the Hyundai officials. The expected price of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in India is around Rupees 20 Lakh. Booking of a special edition named "Project 45" will start in Europe soon, it will cost £45,000 ( around $63,000).

As the demand for a safe electric car with long-range and world-class features is growing Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be a game-changer at this time. Currently, Tesla is a mile away in the EV segment but Hyundai Motors has long years of experience in automobiles with huge worldwide market exposure. Hyundai's IC engine vehicles are famous in the whole world. So, marketing EVs are very easy for Hyundai. Electric car Hyundai Kona is also performing very well worldwide and among the most loved electric cars. 

A Bengaluru start-up company Pravaig has also unveiled its Pravaig Extinction MK1 luxury electric car model like Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Morris Garages also launched MG ZS EV SUV in India which offers 419 kilometers of the range in a single charge. Sony is also in the final stage of launching the Sony Vision-S electric car. 

The EV market is growing and automobile lovers will get a safe luxury electric car at an affordable price. No doubt, Hyundai Ioniq will perform better in the future.
