Tata Motors India launched the iconic Tata Safari in 2021 and after some time in the same year, Mahindra & Mahindra India launched the all-new XUV 700. Safari has a great fanbase already and XUV 700 is being very popular after the launch. Tata Safari is powered by a 4 cylinder 1956cc turbocharged Kryotec DOHC engine which generates a maximum power of 168 bhp at 3750 rpm and a maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1750 rpm while Mahindra XUV 700 is powered by a 4 cylinder 2184 cc turbocharged CRDi DOHC engine which generates a maximum power of 182 bhp at 3500 rpm and a maximum torque of 450 Nm at 1750 rpm. Safari is available in only diesel engine option and XUV 700 comes in both the petrol and diesel engine option. The engine of XUV 700 is more powerful than the new Tata Safari. 

Tata and Mahindra both are masters in producing reliable, strong and fuel-efficient engines in India. The top variant of Mahindra XUV 700 is decorated by an all-wheel-drive (AWD) also and Tata Safari comes with only a front-wheel-drive option. Both SUVs are driven by a 6-speed manual and automatic gear transmission.

The height (1786mm) and width (1894mm) of Tata Safari is more than the height (1755mm) and width (1890mm) of Mahindra XUV 700. Safari is a little bit small in length (4661mm) compared to XUV 700 (4695). The ground clearance of the new Safari is 205mm while XUV 700 comes with 200mm of ground clearance that means Safari is going to move more easily on the tough terrains compared to XUV 700.

If we are going to compare the safety features then both SUVs are capable of a safe highway and adventure journey because Tata Safari is built on the legendary futuristic Optimal Modular Efficient Global Architecture (OMEGARC) D8 based platform which has been used in the Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles offer the safest and superior build quality while Mahindra XUV 700 is loaded with world-class ADAS safety features. The full form of ADAS is Advance Driver Assistance System.

New Tata Safari is not tested in the Global NCAP crash test. Mahindra XUV 700 has been tested in the Global NCAP crash test and achieved a 5-Star safety rating. Though Safari is not tested, it has been also built on the 5-Star safety rating standards. Tata Safari is protected by a 6-airbags system with tyre pressure monitoring system while Mahindra XUV 700 is protected by a 7-airbags system with additional lane departure prevention, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, emergency brake light flashing, middle rear three-point seatbelt and middle rear headrest features.

Braking and traction also play an important role in safety. Suppose, if your braking and traction are perfect then probably you can survive an accident without any collision. Hence, we think braking and traction are the primary safety compared to external body safety after a collision. Both SUVs are enabled with ABS, ABD, ESP, Hill Hold Control, Traction Control and Tata Safari has additional Brake Assist and Hill Descent Control also.

The Interior of both SUVs is luxury with separate AC vents on all pillars. Mahindra wins the race of modern world-class interior. XUV 700 is decorated by a 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control while Safari has a normal rear camera and cruise control. The instrument cluster of XUV 700 is more futuristic and appealing. 

Mahindra XUV 700 comes with Alexa compatibility. Vehicle status through the application, geo-fencing, over-the-air updates (OTA), remote car lock/unlock through the application and remote car light flashing and honking through the application is given in both SUVs. Mahindra XUV 700 is enabled with additional AC on/off and panoramic sunroof open/close through the application. XUV 700 has more features overall. 

The overall seating position of Tata Safari seems more comfortable and it gets a cooled glove box also which is not present in XUV 700. These are the main differences between these SUVs. We like both SUVs but Mahindra XUV 700 is being more popular now because of the ADAS features and a greater road presence. The waiting period of XUV 700 is very long because of the high demand in the Indian market. Tata Safari Gold Edition is also cool and is loved by Indian buyers.

The ex-showroom Delhi, India price of the new Tata Safari Top variant XZA Plus Gold is Rs 23.2 Lakhs and the ex-showroom Delhi, India price of the Mahindra XUV 700 is Rs 22.99 Lakhs.
